Why we believe stories matter

Updated: Jul 1, 2023

Every once in a while, I stumble into a conversation with someone who wonders why we're in the business of preserving stories. I share details about Memories In Writing and someone asks how or why we decided every story matters.

It's pretty simple, really. To believe your own story matters, you must also recognize that everyone else's does as well. Too often, we're led to believe that there's only time and space for the inventors, the billionaires, the supermodels and A-list actors, the world famous athletes and kings and queens. But that's a lie.

We know the truth. The truth is that each one of us is a thread of the fabric of humanity. Each moment in our lives, large and small, is connected to the greater community, country, world around us. We're not simply existing alongside our neighbors. We're co-existing and creating the future that's ahead for each of us and our descendants.

That's why stories matter. Each new story shared adds perspective for the listener. Each detail opens wider their scope of the world and its inner-workings. If we have finite lifetimes here on Earth and we hope to learn as much as possible while we're here, then sharing with each other is our greatest gift for the future.

You may think you've led an unremarkable life. You may feel your story doesn't matter because your name isn't in record books or on movie posters, but it simply isn't true. Your impact, your gift, your meaning lies in your existence.

This is our passion. This is why we work so hard to make sure everyone's story is recorded. If what's stopping you is not knowing how to start, please don't hesitate to reach out. We're always ready to answer your questions and get you started. Visit now or email today to learn more.
